A Reflection of the Past and a Stratgem for the Future

On March 8, 1901, Governor Gage signed the California Polytechnic School Bill and classes began two years later in September 1903. Now, in its 100th year, the campus is known as a premier public polytechnic university, due in large part to its outstanding faculty, students and dedicated alumni and friends. With an eye toward the future, Cal Poly is poised to assume a national leadership role. During the Centennial year, Cal Poly will enter into a dialogue with all members of the campus community and with national leaders in higher education, government and commerce to discuss our unique role and the university's exciting future.
